It consists of five remote seaside villages that are connected by walking paths that take you through the region's lush forest, from atop of which you will have some of Italy's most striking panoramas imaginable. One might say that Cinque Terre is like a time portal: owing to the very steep terrain, the villages lack many of the trappings of modern life, with a notable and refreshing absence of automobiles.
