As you sip a cappuccino and munch on an Italian cornetto, your mood will first relax and then enliven; the evocative flavors may inspire you to consider how you will best enjoy the city. Perhaps a leisurely walk through the glorious ruins of Ancient Rome, an exquisite lunch in the Parco dei Fiori, followed by an extended visit to Vatican City to marvel at its wondrous art? Truly, the choices are as endless as they are delightful; and whatever you do in Rome, you will cherish the resulting memories for a long time to come.

Just like an evening spent drinking a bottle of Sagrantino di Montefalco and another of Brunello di Montalcino, a vacation that takes you from Rome to Tuscany is absolutely brilliant!

If we were charged with the task of picking the single place that has elevated the delights of Italy from first-rate to transcendental, it would be Tuscany. Within this region humanity experienced the spark of genius-perhaps the greatest in our history-that was the Italian Renaissance. And when we think of superlative Italian cuisine and wine, Tuscany is the ideal against which all other traditions are compared. Where else in the world do we have endless rolling vine-covered hills complemented by radiant golden sunflowers as our very own back yard? Italy is a country well endowed with the extraordinary-but it all begins here, in Tuscany.

Yet, just over the border we find cross over into a world that is as magnificent.

Umbria is so extraordinary that it is entirely reasonable to view it as neighbor Tuscany's equal. When we ponder the spiritual/artistic output of this lofty region-considering the likes of St. Francis and the great Perugino-we are utterly dumbfounded. When touring Umbria, popularly dubbed the green heart of Italy, where can we find better produce that almost single-handedly creates Umbria's world-famous gastronomy? Which region is more evocative of Italy's pre-Roman glory than Umbria, where cities founded by the great Etruscan civilization still endure nearly 3,000 years later? And the Umbrian countryside, finally, is as awe-inspiring as anything in the world.
