In Florence we find not only Italy's finest collection of art, but also a city that in itself is among the country's loveliest examples of artistry. Famous churches and museums, among them the Uffizi Gallery, bejewel the city, each holding the priceless treasures of the Renaissance. But promenading the Florentine streets will present you with magical architecture in graceful dialogue with the nearby Tuscan countryside, and a vibrant people whose mannerisms and language are redolent of Florence's creative spark. As if this weren't enough, local chefs and winemakers dazzle our palates with their own artistry-forged each time they masterfully harness nature's bounty and create one of Italy's finest gastronomies.

Florence is the sort of city that begs its visitors to be ever perceptive of each of its details. As you enter the Baptistery, you will see raised images ornamenting the doors: pause for a very long moment to reflect on them, because these bronze reliefs depicting scenes from Judeo-Christian scripture are among the most stunning examples of art in Italy. After you have entered, lift your eyes to the ceiling and let the imposing and fearsome Last Judgment stir your soul. Your visit to the Baptistery will naturally follow on to the pink, green, and white marbled Duomo done in the Florentine gothic style. Moving on to the museums, the Duomo's holds the various works from the Renaissance masters that once adorned the cathedral wall. But when speaking about museums in Florence, one name supersedes the rest: the Uffizi Gallery. This spectacular site holds the collection of the mighty Medici family who commissioned much of the brilliant Renaissance art created in Florence. As you walk its hallowed 16th-century hallways designed by architectural great Giorgio Vasari, do so thoughtfully, giving due appreciation to each piece, from the da Vincis to the Giottos. But truly Florence is inundated with art like no other place in the world, so we encourage everyone who visits Florence to embrace as many manifestations of its artistic heritage-language, music, food, wine-as possible!
