As long as Naples is Naples, it will always be regarded by Americans as one of Italy's most special places. With all due respect to the other regions of Italy, the vast majority of the things-especially culinary things-we know and love about Italy have their roots in this city. Just think about all of the Italian dishes that involve some permutation of tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil... They're all, with very few exceptions, Neapolitan! The truth is that eating is among the most serious pastimes in Naples, but if that isn't enough of a reason to visit this enthralling city, its vivacious culture, ancient roots, and devotion to the arts should be a powerful draw!
