Castelbuono, set in a pleasant valley at the foot of the Madonie mountains, already inhabited in Neolithic times, and showing evidence of its Greek, Roman, Arab and Byzantine settlers.
Overnight in the magnificent Relais Santa Anastasia, converted from a medieval Benedictine abbey which was founded in 1100 by a Norman mercenary. Its restoration does justice to the centuries old stone and, surrounded by nature, it offers elegant rooms and hundreds of secret corners; the reading and music room, the bar, the pool with whirlpool, the sun roof, billiards room and the gardens.
A short distance away, in the nearby village of Polizzi Generosa, which dominates the Imera valley from its vantage point on a spur of rock, dinner will be served at the Trattoria Itria.
