Just outside Palermo, in Contrada Virzi, tasting of two white and two red wines, accompanied by typical regional produce, at the Principi di Spadafora Estate. Started over 100 years ago by a noble Sicilian family, the Estate is today one of the finest wineries in the area; the 95 hectares of vineyards produce very varied wines, all worth noting: from the Chardonnay to the Don Pietro Rosso, from the Cabernet Sauvignon Schietto to the Sole dei Padri.
Overnight in the Hotel Baglio Conca d'Oro, born out of the ruins of an 18th century paper mill. The attentive restoration gave new life to the building, keeping the history of its walls and halls alive. The rooms too, elegantly decorated with 18th century Sicilian furnishings, help recreate the atmosphere which recalls Lampedusa's “Leopard”.
