Day 2 - Montalcino
Departure for Montalcino, famous for its Brunello, one of the best red wines in the world. Lunch at the Osteria di Porta al Cassero, a family run hostelry which is in the stables in an ancient fortress, for a traditional menu based on local seasonal produce accompanied by wines from the hills surrounding Montalcino. Some free time after lunch to visit the magnificent old town center. We would suggest a visit to the Mastio della Rocca where the Enoteca La Fortezza is located. Here some excellent local honey can be bought which is a real speciality of the town.
Afternoon stopover at the prestigious Fattoria dei Barbi to visit the historical cellars that have housed barrels of Brunello since 1892. Enjoy a guided tasting of their prestigious wines accompanied by some local produce.
